Recently I was working with a large local client who sells ice cream at intermission. They invited me over asking if I could help attach a sign to their coolers so as their people walked up and down the aisles it would be easy for people in the seats to see ice cream was close by for purchase. I looked at their heavy duty specially made insulated coolers that are carried up and down the steps and felt intimidated by the request to say the least. I explained that I wish there was an elegant way to affix clamps and poles to their coolers but there was really no elegant way to do so without damaging the coolers in the process. Their feeling was it never hurts to ask but I still felt bad. I never want to leave a problem without offering a solution so we talked further and then it came to me.
We have a new product called “Backpack Walking Flag” which allows you to attach a banner to a backpack creating a simple mobile sign on your back and at the same time it frees both hands for doing business. I have been wondering if there was a market for this kind of thing so it was kind of an “ah ha” moment. Now their concessionaires can walk up and down the aisle and anyone within sight who can’t see in the cooler can still see tasty ice cream treats are close by. While at first glance it might look a bit hokey it is hard to ague with results. When ice cream sales approach six figures in sales during a season a little improvement can yield even bigger dollars in added revenue.
